1.3km of tarmac easy walking, followed by a very long descending flight of concrete steps, immediately followed by similar flight of mud steps going up, finally 3.5km of medium difficulty normal coast path. (The steps are tiring to novices and can make the final section feel more difficult.) There are no other easy exits along this entire stretch of path! Do not descend the steps at Esso Jetty unless you are confident about reclimbing them. There is free parking at Gelliswick Bay and a small free car park next to the caravan site at Sandy Haven 857/073, the next exit.   The Path Starting at Gelliswick Bay 888/056, walk alongside the beach with the sea on your left. At the end of the beach follow the road that goes straight on. After passing a jetty entrance on your the left and houses on the right, a gate is reached. Go past the gate and follow the path to reach the steps above an old jetty. Descend the steps, cross the beach to get under the jetty and then climb the steps on the other side. Stop and catch your breath, there are no problems like those steps on the rest of the route. There is only one path so the route is easy to follow. Some sections offer spectacular views including a 360 degree panorama with the Haven on one side and flat open land on the other. (Esso refinery used to be situated here but the site is now being completely redeveloped for ready for the LNG facility.) Watch out for Stack Rock, a tiny island dominated by a fort. Take the path leading to a carpark 857/073 immediately before the caravan site. If the tide is out, you may wish to consider going onto the beach and following the little stream. Opposite the point where the road joins the beach, you will find a set of stepping stones designed for crossing the river. The stones are only visible at low tide, on a spring high tide the entire beach gets flooded.
